GRE
 

The GRE is a standardized exam given at various locations in the United States and around the world.
This test is to be taken by people who plan to pursue any Master's or Ph.D. program other than business management.

It is the required entrance exam for most MS/MA programs (including Engineering, Science, Arts,Architecture).

The GRE is a Computer-based Test.
Each section in GRE is scored in the range of 200-800 and the total score is out of 1600.

The Analytical Writing section (in the new pattern from October 1st, 2002) is scored on a scale of 0-6 points.
GRE scores are valid for 5 years. Score required to get into Good universities is 1400 and above.

Registration for the exam can be done over the phone or by mail.
The test is conducted throughout the year except for Sundays and public holidays.

1. Verbal Section:
The Verbal ability measure is designed to test one's ability to reason with words in solving problems. Reasoning effetively in a verbal medium depends primarily upon the ability to discern, comprehend, and analyze relationships among words and within passages.

2. Quantitative Section:
The Quantitative section is designed to measure basic mathematical skills, understanding of elementary mathematical concepts, and ability to reason quantitatively and to solve problems in a quantitative setting.

3. Analytical Writing Section:
This section measures your ability to analyze an issue. The Writing Assessment requires you to respond to two essay topics.
One topic will be an 'issue' topic and the other an 'argument' topic:
 

Present your perspective on an issue. (Time - 30 Minutes)
Analyze an argument. (Time - 45 Minutes)
