UK

The United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland (usually shortened to the United Kingdom, the UK or Britain) is a country and sovereign state that lies to the north-west of the continent of Europe with the Republic of Ireland as its only land border. It occupies all of the island of Great Britain and the north-east part of the island of Ireland, sharing a land border with the Republic of Ireland.

The United Kingdom is bounded by the Atlantic Ocean, and its ancillary bodies of water, including the North Sea, the English Channel, the Celtic Sea, St George's Channel, and the Irish Sea. The United Kingdom is linked to France and Continental Europe by the Channel Tunnel.

The United Kingdom is a constitutional monarchy composed of four constituent countries: England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland. The current monarch is Queen Elizabeth II, who is also the Queen and Head of State of fifteen other Commonwealth Realms, including Canada, Australia, New Zealand and Jamaica. The Crown Dependencies of the Channel Islands and the Isle of Man, formally possessions of the Crown, form a federacy with the United Kingdom collectively known as the British Islands. The UK also has fourteen overseas territories,[10] all remnants of the British Empire which at its height encompassed a quarter of the world's surface and population.

Although Britain was the foremost great power during the 19th century, the economic cost of two world wars and the decline of its empire in the latter half of the 20th century diminished Britain's status in global affairs. However, as a permanent member of the United Nations Security Council, a nuclear power, a member of the G8, the world's fifth largest economy, and having the second highest defence spending, Britain remains an important political, economic and military world power. It is a member of the European Union and the Commonwealth of Nations.

Educational System in the UK

Fostering high standards of education is the Government's greatest responsibility. In England this responsibility lies with the Department for Education & Skills (DfES); in Scotland, with the Scottish Executive Education Department; in Wales, with the National Assembly of Wales and in Northern Ireland, with the Department of Education Northern Ireland (DENI). About 93 per cent of children are educated in state-run primary and secondary schools, the remainder go to independent schools that rely on privately-paid tuition fees.

Through these central government organizations, the provision of education in the UK includes monitoring and improving standards in schools, colleges and universities; ensuring that everyone-no matter what disability or special need they may have - is included and has access to good education; ensuring a high quality of central and local education administration; promoting work experience for young people and vocational training for employees; reforming student support arrangements; and encouraging lifelong learning.

Through the British Council, the Government actively promotes education in the UK to countries all over the world. Other major organizations help to guide and make welcome some 275,000 overseas students who currently enjoy the advantages of living and studying in the UK.

The Educational system of England is as uncomplicated as it is qualitative. The 'O' levels are equivalent of the S.L.C. in Nepal whereas the 'A' levels are equivalent to the 12th Grade in Nepal. Likewise in Australia, some educational institutions require students to complete the foundation level after the 12th grade on Nepal to get an entry to the Bachelors Level. British Universities offer three-year and four-year Bachelor's degrees. This makes it substantially easier for candidates who would like to study the Master's level in the UK.
